John wrote an article on career growth that was mentioned in the previous slide. Some people who read the article recommended that he write a book on the subject. John started writing the book and then realized that companies could use similar advice. However, the skill development is opposite of growing your career. In a career a person starts with education or training to provide a foundation to get them started. As additional skills are learned, the responsibilities increase. A career leads to a level where the employee is invited to work on business analysis and strategy. In contrast, an entrepreneur must start with a product or service and a strategy that will help a product or service sell in a sufficient volume to make a good living. As the business grows, he will have to fill in gaps in education and resources required for a larger company to grow. This fascinating concept led John to write a book, “Keep It Going!, Sustained growth strategy for your career or business.”
